Find a file or folder in your computer : is done in the Finder. Go in the Finder and choose “Find” in the File menu, or type “Command F” () keyboard shortcut. A window appears which you fill up with the most possible information concerning the searched file or folder; the less information you put, the more answers you will have. When the window is filled up, all files and folders having the introduced properties appear. Select the searched file or folder, and at the bottom of the window, you will find the path to reach it. Double clicking on the file’s name, will open it.

For those who have the 10.4 version of Mac OS X (Tiger), or upward, they have the Spotlight icon, top right of screen, a blue disc icon. Clicking it and typing the beginning of the file’s or folder’s name makes a list appear ; select your file or folder with the down arrow, and type Space or Return. The file appears on your screen. This method is extremely quick, but it implies that you know the file’s or folder’s name.

Searches on internet : there are plenty of ways to search on internet. The most current one is to type a keyword in the first text field of Google web site :

http://www.google.com

Or to type this keyword in the Google text field, top right of a Safari window, then type Return. Google gives plenty of web sites concerned by that keyword.

Another way is to open the Sherlock application given with Mac OS X operating system. Its icon is a black helmet and a magnifying glass ; it should be in the dock. You should spend some time to understand all that can be done with that application, apart from searches.
